when do you count it as "first word"?

This morning Emma has been saying "mama, mom" in a more deliberate way than ever, but it was directed at Kaylee the cat (twice), and then at the yardstick. She liked playing with the hot pink yardstick from Wilbourne Furniture in Dunn, NC. Later it was the whisk: "mama, mom".

Since it wasn't directed at me, I don't think I'll count it.

Your story today reminded me of your first word. My memory says it was something like "flow'r" -- with an emphasis on the "fl"! You did like to look at flowers and I did say the word to you many times, I'm sure. "Ba-ba-ba-ba" and "Da-da-da" came along soon thereafter. Not sure when you added "Ma-ma" to your fast growing vocabulary -- it felt like forever!
