good day

I was proud of E tonight. At the preschool board meeting (parents are on the board), she shared her dinner with a friend, and she played independently and she loved on her teacher and one of my other friends even more than she did on me. She even hugged a parent she had never met before! She drew a picture that started out being of me (so she said), all decorated and standing on flower petals on my wedding day. Then she took it back and worked on it some more, and gave it to my friend Jeni. She told me later it was a picture of Jeni holding her baby on her wedding day. I approved 100% - I love that she loves other people and that she didn't cling to me during the meeting. She seemed to need my attention hardly at all.

And tonight she didn't have any fits either - even braved the sandy band-aid removal.

I think David's coming home tomorrow.

another E-ism

Last night E said her brain kept thinking about Scooby-Doo monsters when she went to bed. "I think I must have a haunted brain."

power struggles

This morning I didn't let E take any dress-up clothes to school because she had tried to sneak 5 dresses and tutus past me, stuffed in her pillow case. She lied when I asked what was in there. So we had lots of crying and accusations of unfairness, etc. in the car on the way to preschool. Some of the best lines:

E: "I never get to do everything I want!"
me: "No one ever gets to do everything they want"
E: "Pippi Longstocking does!"

E: "I wish you and Daddy could go to another land so I could do anything I want."
me: "You want to live like Pippi Longstocking?"
E: (reflective pause, change of tone) "But I don't know how I could... I don't know how to cook stuff!"

babies in tummies

E said, "I wonder how I could be so small to be just a spark in the universe!" I must have used that phrase at some point, but only once I'm sure, and it was not discussed. Then she started speculating on how she got in my belly in the first place.... I somehow vaguely implied that daddies have something to do with it, and I have always said that she comes from Daddy and me. She said with a furrowed brow, "I guess they have to cut the baby in half to put half in the daddy and half in the mommy...."

scooby dooby doo!

silly dressing up

I think this is E's latest favorite game, dressing up in funny ways.
